Description
Frank Zappa "We're Only In It For The Money" Impossible to find and rarely seen unique New Zealand edition. Heavy weight vinyl, Grooved Verve label V6/5045.
This is the only copy I have ever seen in almsot 30 years. NZ presing runs for new releases by less commercial artists in the 60's were only 300 - 500 copies - and this was certainly neevr reissued.
Cover is an unusual variation of the standard sleeve - the inner gatefold is in black an white, and white - with inner flipback style construction. Here's a little info about it from an article "Collecting Frank Zappa in Australia" by Stuart Penney from the Australian Record Collectors Magazine, Issue #14 June-July-August 1995
"At this point, some mention should be made of the New Zealand issue of Money (Verve V/V6 5045) which, despite having the regular yellow foldout 'drag' sleeve, apparently features the Sgt Pepper spoof inside cover in glorious black & white! This particular cost-cutting exercise was prevalent in New Zealand throughout the 60s and 70s, inadvertently creating many desirable mutant pressings for the overseas collector's market along the way".
Curiosly, nowhere on the label or cover does it state made in New Zealand, with the label print only indicating "mfd by deutsche grammophon gessellshaft", who set up pressing facilities in NZ to press classical releases! They did however contract pressings for Polydor and other labels like Verve. (the first Jimi Hendrix Lp had this text too here!).
Grading: Using UK record Collector Grading:
Record: VG. Disc has a slight, visually imperceptable waver, i hesitate to say warp, but shows on a turntable, but without affecting play on my turtable.
Labels : EX (has spindle marks)
Cover: VG+ (overall very nice, but spine on left and right have some wear but no splits, tape or writing. NOTE: disc inserts in the inside middle flipback sleeve!
