FRED KIRBY Pretty Little Tweetsie/Indian Fighting Man RARE Dixie 45 NC railroad Shipping Info   Description Rare and obscure 45 rpm 7" country rockabilly record: FRED KIRBY (star of WBTV, Charlotte, NC) SINGS "PRETTY LITTLE TWEETSIE" b/w "INDIAN FIGHTING MAN", released on Dixie Records, S-1102; includes the very rare original picture sleeve (with photos of the Tweetsie Railroad and Theme Park on front and back covers); no printed date but circa the late 1950's or very early 1960's. Kirby wrote both songs, upbeat and catchy country rockabilly. Search the song titles on Youtube to hear sound clips of both of them.

Fred Kirby (1910-1996) was an American country-and-western recording and performance artist and song writer who was widely known in North and South Carolina for his radio and television work with WBTV in Charlotte, North Carolina. The station aired a program that featured Kirby and his sidekick "Uncle Jim" (played by Jim Patterson). The show was known at various times as "Whistle Stop," "Fred Kirby's Little Rascals," and "Kirby's Corral." Giving the "hi-sign" to his young fans, Kirby was a fixture for many years at the western-themed park Tweetsie Railroad in Blowing Rock, North Carolina.

The Tweetsie Railroad began as an excursion train ride aboard steam locomotive #12, the only surviving narrow gauge engine of the East Tennessee and Western North Carolina Railroad (ET&WNC). It became a popular tourist attraction, and evolved into one of the nation's first theme parks, still operating as a family- oriented railroad and Wild West theme park in NC.

Condition: EX/EX (vinyl is glossy with one 1/2-inch scuff; clean labels; clean sleeve except for black crayon and small ink price to the cover, small pencil note to back cover corner; no splitting, but the glue along one edge flap and part of the other has dried and separated).
