Description
The VERY scarce 45 from FREDDY KING; "DRIVING SIDEWAYS" c/w "HIDEAWAY" - UK SUE RECORDS WI-349 ~ (1965)
Matrix numbers:-
"Wl 349 A", (repeated on the label) on the A side and
"Wl 349 B" on the B side, (again, repeated on the label )
This is a genuine first pressing copy.
So, this auction is for the extremely sought after FREDDY KING single "DRIVING SIDEWAYS"/"HIDEAWAY" on the SUE RECORDS offshoot of the ISLAND RECORDS, with the correct red and yellow label and in the original red print Sue sleeve.
This is one of the great guitar blues instrumentals, although I always preferred the "B" side myself! (Probably because I remember ERIC CLAPTON playing it in his BLUESBREAKERS days)
The record itself is genuinely very clean on both sides, with just very minor sleeve surface marking, absolutely no scratches, very minor surface noise, (except for just a little on the lead in and lead out grooves, as usual), no crackles or pops and no jumps; it has been played but not much, and so has no spindle marks on the very clean labels and no audible wear at all.
I only saw him once, but cannot remember where! Anyway, the record was bought new and has been looked after as it was really difficult to obtain in the first place!
The cover is the original one and still very clean, with minor creases and just a little bit of fraying at the top corners - as usual, I have made no attempt to "tidy" this up to deceive bidders by the way - all I will do is crop the image size and adjust the contrast and brightness, because the camera keeps taking very faint ones! WYSIWYG.
Using the Record Collector grading system; the vinyl is EXCELLENT on both sides, the cover is also just EXCELLENT; I have just played it VERY LOUD for the last time, as of course it should be played, and it’s STILL SUPERB, driving, bluesy musical and well recorded, as befitting a ledgendary guitarist who was revered by PETER GREEN, ERIC CLAPTON and others in the UK at the time.
If you are interested in early British R & B, Blues and Progressive Rock Bands and the USA West Coast bands of the time then please add me to your favourites as I do have some rarities that I have never seen on eBay. I do not go in for all the b******s about rare first pressings and the excessive detailing of group histories that I see other sellers boring eBay members with and will describe the records honestly, just indicating the basics.
All my records are from my own personal collection, built up since the early 1960’s and have genuinely been played very little and then only on quality turntables, (Garrard Zero 100, Lab 80 and Goldring GL75), set up with a low tracking force, using Shure, then Grado then Stanton cartridges over the years. All records have been dry stored, vertically, in the dark and only ever played by myself and NEVER lent to anybody!

International buyers paying by PayPal should expect to pay their International fee on JUST the shipping part of the transaction, which I will add to the eBay invoice.
