Description
This is a copy of the supremely rare first ever single from Free. But then I take it I'm talking to fans of the almighty band here and they know that anyway.
FREE: Broad Daylight/The Worm; 1969 Island Records 45 WIP 6054
Can you believe this record is 40 years old next year? I can't. (Short pause while seller reflects where his life has gone)
Anyway...
Copies of this don't surface too often and when they do they usually have the centre missing - a typical negative symptom of many singles from the 60s.
Those that still retain their "push-out" middles are what real collectors seek. But what about this? I've never seen this version of the pressing before. This one is of the uber-rare completely SOLID Island discs - the centre CAN'T be pushed out. Try it if you like. This type of pink Island press is usually associated with earlier period Island singles so I'm thinking that this is one of the very first copies of "Broad Daylight" sent to shops in 1969. Maybe the last they made this way.
It's in very good condition too. No heavy scratches or scuffs, a few visible surface marks. There's some noise on the run-in but that soon has to make way for the band. No contest.
The labels are as pink and proud as the day they were slapped on the vinyl.
In the end, the point is, this 45 rarely shows up for auction at all. And here is one. The record, middle and all, every thumping bit as solid as the legendary band who provide the churning groove. VIVA FREE!
