FRESH MAGGOTS - Fresh Maggots ORIG RCA LP SF 8205 (UK, 1971)
Happy to present the very pinnacle of electric folk! You all know this one - massively in demand not only due to its rarity but also because of its unusual and original marriage of acoustic and electric folk styles. My favourite is the superb ‘Who’s To Die’ with its dramatic orchestral stabs melting into the lovely pastoral string section.
I can bring this original 1971 copy to you in solid if not spectacular condition. CHECK MY DETAILED SELLER RATINGS TO SEE THAT I AM THOROUGH AND STRICT IN MY DESCRIPTIONS!!
The sleeve is the original 1st press UK sleeve made by West Brothers Ltd. IT HAS THE ORIGINAL PURPLE REAR NOT THE LATER BLUE ISSUE. Generally it’s very clean and is perfectly intact with NO splits, with very little edge wear or feathering. The spine is perfectly intact with no splits, but has been bumped a little. All text still intact and readable. There’s quite a few small creases to the front and you can make out a ring impression, though this light on the front. The purple rear has the usual, customary ring wear. HARDLY ANY COPIES OF THIS HAVE SURVIVED WITHOUT ANY RINGWEAR ON THE REAR, IT SEEMS TO BE ESPECIALLY PRONE. There are also around 4/5 tiny patches of paper loss to the right of the rear (see photo). Lastly there is some mild ‘rippling’ to the sleeve in general, though this is not extreme. Overall not a mint sleeve, but better than some I’ve seen. Graded VG- (Very Good Minus), NOT TRASHED!
The labels are absolutely fine with NO damage, soiling, writing, stickers or residue. A true EX.
The vinyl, like so many original copies of this LP has quite a few pressing ‘dimples’ or ‘bubbles’ over the 2 sides. These sometimes sound as light ticks and sometimes as more noticeable ‘pops’ on the play, but AT NO POINT DOES THE LP STICK OR JUMP AND THERE IS NO DISTORTION, HEAVY CRACKLE OR LOSS OF CLARITY.
It still sounds really fresh and looks pretty good despite the ‘dimples’. There are also a few hairlines and thin scuffs and one tiny scratch, but all of these imperfections (and I have looked closely) do not detract from the overall appearance of the record. Strictly graded VG (Very Good) both visually and audibly.
