Lucio Fulci's 1980 flick City of the Living Dead remains one of the more popular zombie films, despite its obscure Italian origins. The soundtrack, composed by Fabio Frizzi and originally released on Italy's Beat Records in 1982, has becoming something of a must-have for horror soundtrack collector, partly due to its' difficult to obtain nature. This deluxe, remastered reissue from horror specialists Death Waltz - complete with new artwork - is therefore very welcome. It's an entertaining but curious concoction, delivering an atmospheric mix of dark choral moods, chilling orchestral compositions, rubbery kosmische, leftfield cinematic funk, synth-laden wig-outs and prog-rock influenced oddities.
