FUNKADELIC – Toys. Westbound/Ace Records SEWD 133. UK release. FACTORY SEALED NEW VINYL RECORD ALBUM. NOTE:  Their is a tiny corner ding LLC, this is as it was received from my supplier; as such the selling price has been reduced. Issued in 2008. Features 5 early 70s previously unreleased studio recordings from the vaults of Westbound Records; 3 songs and 2 spectacular jams. TRACKS:  Heart Trouble aka You Can’t Miss What You Can’t Measure (4:33), Talk About Jesus (5:50), The Goose That Laid The Golden Egg (5:37), Vampy Funky Bernie (3rd Tune Olympic (6:33), and Slide On In (2nd Tune Olumpic) (10:47). DESCRIPTION, the following comes from the Ace website as written by Dean Rudland:

There is lots of unreleased music in the world and as time progresses a lot of it it being issued by us and many others. The reasons that it was left in the vault vary, it could have been because too much great material was recorded at the same time and only some of it could come out, it could be that the artists last record flopped and the record company didn’t want to put anymore records out by an unsuccessful artist, or it could be that the group were experimenting in the studio and the results would not have sounded great on AM or even FM radio, so what was the point of releasing it. What is true, however, is that it is very rare to get a whole albums worth of unreleased material by a front line act, and when you do it’s pretty certain that reasons one and three above come into play. With that in mind we have managed to come up with a whole album of Funkadelic material from the Westbound vaults and as predicted reasons one and three abound. Experimenting – with music, costume, drugs – was pretty much a given with Funkadelic as George Clinton led his band through their 7 year tenure at Westbound. Theirs is a catalog that includes the cosmic wonders of Maggot Brain and the filthy funk of Better By The Pound, Toys covers both songs and grooves. From the more structured end of things we have a storming version of Heart Trouble which was originally done by the Parliaments in the 60s and was finally revived by Funakdelic on the Cosmic Slop LP in 1973. This version is earlier and rawer, a great discovery. The instrumental version of The Goose That Laid The Golden Egg – another 60s Parliament’s single – is wild and dominated by some stunning interplay between Bernie Worrell’s keyboard and the guitar of Eddie Hazel. Best of all, though is the gospel styled Talk About Jesus where again Worrell shines this time amongst the harmonies of Ray Davis, Calvin Simon, Fuzzy Haskins, and Grady Thomas. Bernie Worrell really does star throughout, another high point being the 10 minute plus jam on Slide On In. Toys is a rare treat and comes complete with amazing sleeve notes by Rob Bowman who interviewed several band members to get the full lowdown on these recordings. SIDE BAR:  The CD version contains 4 additional tracks plus a video clip from Cosmic Slop, shot on the streets of New York, from this same time period (we’re working on getting that one).

All LPs are removed from their jackets and placed outside of the jacket for shipping. If an album comes sealed (and will be noted as such in the above description), it will be shipped whole unless you request that I open it up to place the disc outside of the jacket for shipping. Both jacket and disc are placed inside of an outer plastic sleeve before packing for shipping. I use professional corrugated record mailers.

NEW LP:  This item is new and unplayed, but was received from a supplier without being shrink wrapped or cellophane wrapped; more common on imports but also many of the smaller independent US labels do not seal their LPs.

MIX:  This sometimes appears in my title line and refers to a group's/artist's music having a mix of styles such a rock track with jazz then followed by a straight rock track followed by a psych rock track, etc., as opposed to a blues album with the album's tracks having predominantly one style.

RETURN POLICY:

NON-ARRIVAL OF PACKAGES:

US Customers:  Please wait at least two weeks from my confirmed shipping date before contacting me about the non-arrival of your package. All packages are shipped with confirmation/tracking, you will received an automatically generated shipping notice from Ebay e-mail with your tracking number. It has been several years since I’ve had a package not make its US destination, so risk is minimal.

I do my best to quickly post packages, but once the package is in the hands of the world’s postal system it is beyond my control. With First-Class Package International Service my only option for investigating the loss of your package is to verify that it left this country to its destination country. Most all delayed/lost packages have disappeared/been delayed after they have reached their destination country.
