Description

FUNKPROOF - unreleased LP-length acetate, mono, DCT Recorders, early `70s.
Condition: VG++ Has none of the nastiness typically associated with worn acetates (it's not particularly worn, doesn't look or sound like it's had very much play) but does have some marks/lines/scuffs and some very light surface noise. No cover.
The long sound clip (11+ minutes) plays samples from all tracks:

I mentioned this recording to a couple of heavy funk collectors in here LA and they hadn't heard of it. All I could find out was that the group had a track (not on this disc) on a compilation. According to that LP's liner notes, the group had served as Brenton Wood's backing band and recorded an album for MGM, but the company went out of business before the LP could be released. I'm not totally sure, but I don't think this is a finalized to-be-released LP (for one thing, it's in mono) - if the band ever did in fact get to that stage. As you'll hear, the mixes and performances have a fairly raw feel and one of the tracks also has an instrumental version. In any case, this acetate's label is from a studio and makes no mention of MGM. My guess is that it was a demo circulated by the group's management.
Please see my other listings for more rare funk, reggae, calypso vinyl. I'll be listing more rarities in those genres over the next couple weeks, along with some truly out-there private press weirdness.
Payment by paypal only, due within 3 days. International buyers: I do combine shipping for multiple purchases - additional LPs will cost $4.00 each to mail.
