Description

FURRY LEWIS     "PRESENTING THE COUNTRY BLUES"     1968      BLUE HORIZON     ORIG. UK PRESS.

SUPERB. FROM MIKE VERNON'S PREMIER UK BLUES LABEL BLUE HORIZON. FURRY LEWIS WAS A MEMPHIS STREET & MEDICINE SHOW SINGER / GUITARIST - LIKE MOST BLUES PLAYERS FROM THE 1920'S / 30'S, FOLK & POPULAR SONG WERE ALL PART OF THEIR REPETOIRE AS WELL AS THE BLUES - ACCOMPANYING HIMSELF ON GUITAR SOMETIMES USING A BOTTLENECK SLIDE, HIS STYLE WAS UNIQUE. AFTER THE PRE-WAR BLUES BOOM DECLINED, 'FURRY' KEPT HIS HAND IN PLAYING HOUSE PARTIES & BACK-STREET CORNERS, UNTIL THE BLUES REVIVAL OF THE SIXTIES CAUGHT UP WITH HIM - HE WAS STILL A MUSICIAN OF UNIQUE POWER & CHARM AS THIS, ONE OF THE SCARER BLUE HORIZON'S, ATTESTS.

FURRY LEWIS acoustic guitar, bottleneck, vocals.

THE TRACKS;  GRAND CENTRAL STATION;  LET'S SHAKE HAND IN HAND;  WAITING FOR A TRAIN;  LET ME CALL YOU SWEETHEART;  BIG CHIEF BLUES;  CASEY JONES;  TAKE YOUR TIME RAG;  JOHN HENRY;  SKINNY WOMAN;  SEE THAT MY GRAVE IS KEPT CLEAN;  GLORY HALLELUJAH WHEN I LAY MY BURDEN DOWN.

THIS ORIGINAL UK PRESSING IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION - THE SLEEVE HAS SOME VERY LIGHT CREASES & MINOR WEAR.  THE VINYL HAS VERY LIGHT SURFACE (SLEEVE) SCUFF ONLY. LOOKS & PLAYS EXCELLENTO.
