Description

Wilhelm Furtwängler conducts the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra on 19 or 20 December 1944 in Beethoven Symphony 3 "Eroica" in E flat op 55. This is the Leningrad factory Akkord 1st issue which made better deeper grooved and heavier vinyl records than Moscow Melodya Kniga. This 1956 pressing was issued about the same time as the Red and Gold Moscow Melodya pressing (sells for £300) and after the Urania French pressing against which Furtwängler litigated. I have not heard the Uranaia pressing and do not know how the French came by it. This is from Reichsender tapes taken to Moscow in 1945 and released for pressing after Stalin's death and the changes of the 1950s. Sound is better than the Moscow red and gold label. Cover is a bit frayed and there is inked writing "LVB-29" in Cyrillic script. But record is near mint.
