Vintage original 12" 78 rpm one-sided acetate record
created on a record cutting machine in 1961.

Homemade one-off and highly personal family Christmas greetings record sent to legendary songwriter Frank Loesser and his wife Jo Sullivan Loesser in 1961 by Jo's sister Jerri Hammond and featuring Christmas songs performed by her daughters Pamela and Ladelle to piano accompaniment -- plus an original song they wrote themselves about their Uncle Frank!

So begins this delightful musical artifact.
Loesser's nieces then perform their song,

Loesser's most successful Broadway musical, "How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying" opened in October 1961 and was the hottest show on Broadway at the time this record was made during the 1961 holiday season. Loesser would win multiple Tony Awards and a Pulitzer Prize for the show.

The two girls also perform solo renditions of "Silent Night" and "O Christmas Tree" before sending holiday greetings along with their mother to Frank and Jo "and to Johnny and Susan also" -- Mr. Loesser's children from his first marriage. Total runtime of this record is 4 minutes.

Condition: Record is in excellent condition and plays very well with very minimal hiss and crackle. Record comes in the plastic lined sleeve it was found in and has a fragment of its original brown paper sleeve which is annotated. Label on the record has ink annotations as well. Frank Henry Loesser (1910-1969) was an American songwriter who wrote the lyrics and music to the Broadway hits "Guys and Dolls" and "How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying" and is regarded as one of the most important figures in the history of musical theater.

Achieving success with his World War 2 hit song "Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition" he went on to write numerous songs for films and Tin Pan Alley, many of which have become standards -- and was nominated for five Academy Awards for best song, winning once, for "Baby, It's Cold Outside".
