Polarizing lyricist Josh Tillman, aka Father John Misty, was always going to do well to better 2015’s ‘I Love You Honeybear’, which was felt-up by everyone from Alaska to Auckland. Well the results are mostly in and, as could probably be expected, Father John Misty’s latest is allegedly another masterpiece.
Clocking up a beefy 75 minutes, ‘Pure Comedy’ skates through themes of progress, technology, fame, politics, human nature and just about anything else you could write a song about.
As lovers of the physical side of things, the effort into the physical product gets top marks again. There is a deluxe edition containing two LP’s – one copper coloured and one aluminium coloured – with a die-cut sleeve and four alternating covers within, a fold out lyric poster and a hologram tarot card, all housed in a heavy duty plastic outer sleeve.
