Description
Fela Anikulapo Kuti - Expensive Shit - Vinyl LP
This is the original album on the Makossa Records label from 1981.
Considered one of Fela Kuti’s masterpieces and a cornerstone Afrobeat record. Includes Expensive Shit and Water No Get Enemy.Album cover is in excellent shape with wear on the front and back cover.
Shipping is $5.25 which is the cost of USPS media mail. I will combine shipping. It looks like the shipping cost goes up by $1.50 for every record added. (That’s using eBay to generate the USPS shipping label.)
I always handled my records properly and used a Discwasher before playing them.

EDIT: Found this via ChatGPT which I find hilarious:
The title Expensive Shit comes from a notorious real-life incident:
-
The Nigerian police planted a joint on Fela in order to arrest him.
-
Fela quickly swallowed the joint before they could use it as evidence.
-
The police detained him until he produced stool samples, hoping to find the marijuana.
-
Fela managed to substitute another inmate’s clean feces for his own, tricking the police.
-
He was released without charge.
-
The event inspired the biting, satirical song and album title — Expensive Shit.
It’s a perfect example of how Fela used his music to confront corruption, repression, and everyday struggles under Nigeria’s military regime.
