Description
First Love-RARE Private Self Titled Xian Folk Christian LP! This listing is for the self titled vinyl record from First Love. It doesn't have a release date, but I believe it was released in the late 1970's. First Love had an excellent follow up release in 1981, titled, Nothing Can Keep Me Away. (SJD Sound Productions 1031~Original U.S. First Pressing-Private Pressing made in Seabrook, New Jersey). The record features a really nice mix of songs in the Xian folk genre, with some pop and soul mixed in with the melodic vocals. The only information I could find on the record anywhere was on the Ancient Star Song Jesus Music website. They had what I believe to be a very accurate write up of the album, which I'll cut and post here.
- Seven-person Princeton, New Jersey out?t with respectable electric folk-rock/pop-rock style. Melodic songs with a touch of Parable or Children Of The Day, female lead vocals (mostly)> male/female harmonies, 12-string and electric guitars, piano, ?ute and an occasional bit of brass (which didn’t seriously annoy this horn hater too much). A number of original songs written by members John and Joni Volz, such. as ‘Be My Security’, ‘Crowd Gathered’, ‘Journey’s End’ and the slow swingin’ jazz-bluesy ‘Blue Collar’. Switches to a husky Barry McGuire sound-alike for an energized trip through Paul Field’s ‘Light Of The World’ (also found on Barry McGuire’s Have You Heard). Also a cover of Chuck Girard’s ‘Hear The Angels Sing’. Some minor off-key singing reminding you that it’s a custom production. Nice home-made cover design. The band had at least one other album, 1981’s Nothing Can Keep Me Away. (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
- The vinyl is very clean and shiny and visually grades VG++, with a couple of light scratches. Side 1 play grades only VG on the first song with some background noise, but plays better the rest of the way and is closer to VG+ most of the way through, with limited light background noise on some parts. Side 2 also starts with some background noise, but plays very well most of the way through and has a VG+ or better overall play grade. The jacket is solidly together, with no seam splits and grades VG, with some corner and edge wear and some ring wear/cover wear.
- SONGS: The record has 9 excellent songs and it's a rare one: First Love, Peter, More Than The World, Blue cross, Wanna Let You Know, Light Of The World, Crowd Gathered, Hear The Angels Sing and Journey's End. That's the record, good luck bidding!
- CONDITION: Record: Visual grade is VG++/Play grade is VG or better on side 1 and VG+ or better on most of side 2 ::: Jacket: VG
- Please note that all of my records are original U.S. first pressings; unless noted differently; where I write the record label and label number at the beginning of the description. For grading I use a bright light to inspect each record for any possible scratches or marks. I also play grade all or parts of every record I sell.
- For U.S. buyers; the cost of media mail shipping and the box and packing supplies totals $4.00 and each record adds only .50 to the initial $4.00 charge. Please note that New York State buyers must add 8% sales tax to their winning bid price.
- For Canada, Asia, Europe and the rest of the world, the United States Post Office has done a very large postal increase, so please check the shipping cost for your country on the above Ebay link near the top of page that says Shipping and Payments or on my "me" page found here: http://members.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewUserPage&userid=playgradedvinyl88
- For packing I use a professionally made vinyl record box and 2 extra cardboard filler pads that surround the record for added protection.
- Here's the grading scale that I use.
- RECORD GRADING
- SEALED: Still brand new and factory sealed
- MINT: The record will not be sealed, but it will be perfect and still look brand new and unplayed.
- NEAR MINT: The record will be very clean and shiny, with no scratches or marks andit will play great.
- VG++: The record will very clean and shiny, with just a couple of very light scratches or very light marks, that will not affect the play. The record will play very well.
- VG+: The record will be shiny with some light scratches. The record will play well, with either no background noise; or with just a bit of light background noise. Usually the light background noise would be on quieter parts or at the start or end of a song
- VG: The record will probably have lost some shine and it will have some scratches or scuffs. The record will play with some background noise on parts, but it won't skip and will be enjoyable
- G+: The record will have more scratches and marks than VG and will play with more background noise. It won't skip but will play with noticeable background noise on parts
- G or Fair: The record will play worse than G+, but also should not skip. I don't sell many records graded G+, G or fair. I usually only list G+, G or fair graded vinyl when it's a very rare record
- JACKET GRADING
- SEALED: Still factory sealed
- NEAR MINT: The jacket will have no flaws. It will have no corner wear, no cover wear/ring wear, no writing, no seam splits and no cut outs, drill holes or cut corners. The jacket might or might not be in shrinkwrap.
- VG++: The jacket will be just a notch under near mint with 1 or 2 very minor flaws. Perhaps a bit of corner wear or just a bit of very light cover wear or very light ring wear.
- VG+: The jacket will be in nice shape, with some corner wear and maybe some light cover wear or light ringwear.
- VG: The jacket will have more noticeable flaws with heavier cover wear or ring wear, plus maybe a small seam split in the 3 or 4 inch range and maybe a name written in small letters near a corner.
- G+: The jacket will have even more flaws with maybe a crease, some surface scrapes, more writing and larger seam splits; with heavier cover wear
- G: Even worse than G+ but still useable
- fair: Many flaws and only used for very rare records or if the actual vinyl grade is VG+ or better
