Description
This lot contains five 10-inch 78 RPM records by Charlie Barnet and his Orchestra. All five records showed up for the first picture, then they are shown individually, both sides, in the following order (with vocalists in parentheses where applicable):
Bluebird # B-10373 -- "Cherokee" and "The All Night Record Man" (vocal on the latter by Judy Ellington and Charlie Barnet)
Bluebird # B-10349 -- "Still the Bluebird Sings" and "An Apple for the Teacher" (vocal on both sides by Larry Taylor)
Bluebird # B-10817 -- "At a Dixie Roadside Diner" (vocal by Harriet Clark) and "That's for Me" (vocal by Larry Taylor)
RCA Victor # 20-2627 -- "Love Grow on the White Oak Tree" (vocal by Judy Ellington) and "The Last Jump"
Decca # 18378 -- "I Like to Riff" (vocal by "Peanuts" Holland and Ensemble) and "Shady Lady"
All ten sides are considered "hot" enough for inclusion in Brian Rust's "Hot Jazz Discography", which gives recording dates in the 1939-1942 range.
As you can see in the pictures, the last one has a chip at the edge - the needle has to be lowered very precisely or you'll miss the first few notes on each side. Visually, they otherwise grade squarely within the VG to VG+ range, with most of them VG+. They all played through without skipping or repeating on my Audio-Technica turntable, with levels background noise commensurate with visual expectations, including some pops and clicks and short passages of ticking, as well as some general background hiss typical for records of this age. Because of variations in tracking ability, filtering technology and needle weights, I can offer no guarantees as to how well they will play on your equipment. Please check the pictures for any label damage or inscriptions or stickers.
Also included are the company sleeves shown in the pictures, but they are chipped, creased and torn, and don't add anything to overall value.
