Zwei Amerikaner waren zur Band gestoßen, Lindsey Buckingham (Gitarre) und die Sängerin Stevie Nicks. Unter ihrem Einfluss wurde aus der ehemaligen Blues-Band eine Supergruppe, deren melodischer Mainstream-Rock weltweit die Fans begeisterte. Das Album "Mirage" von 1982 war nicht so erfolgreich wie der Megaseller Rumors von 1977, das mehr als 15 Millionen Käufer fand.
