This is the original long out of print first FLIPPER lp. Also includes a free copy of SUB 42 GONE FISHIN lp....I assume that amazing cover was stolen at a party or something, so I put that LP in with this. Also out of print. Vinyl condition fair.....so you get two lps from an amazingly weird band early 80's san francisco.

Flipper: Bruce Lose (vocals, bass, hand claps, percussion, effects); Will Shatter (vocals, bass, hand claps, percussion); Ted Falconi (guitar, hand claps, percussion); Steve DePace (drums, tympani, hand claps, percussion).Additional personnel includes: Bobby, Ward (saxophone); Johnnie, Die Ant, Curtis (percussion).Recorded between October 1980 and August 1981.Flipper was part of that coterie of early-'80s California punk bands committed to changing the genre's rules. This, the band's definitive recording, presents the group as an arty alternative to SoCal hardcore, wallowing in a poetic barbiturate haze. The guitars and drums assault the listener with unrelenting force, but the tempo is slowed to the extent that one questions the speed at which the tape machine was running. Flipper's shambolic attack is nearly psychedelic in its embrace of open-ended chaos. There's almost a hint of Glen Branca in the avant-garde sonorities of the guitars.Equally impressive is the album's lyrical content. While lyricists/vocalists Bruce Lose and Will Shatter share plenty of punk's disillusioned anti-authoritarianism, there's a real poetry at work here. With a minimum of words, Shatter and Lose convey their existential angst in a way that's both cathartic and artful. The real stroke of genius, however, is the tortured ray of hope that shines through in "(I Saw You) Shine" and "Life," where a fragile flower of idealism blooms amid the molasses-paced frenzy. An emotional and sonic tour de force, this recording is a heady mix of punk and poetry.
