Description
This is a group of original 1960s-issue Beatles LPs, all UK, on Parlophone and Apple. Included also is the first James Taylor LP, also UK Apple, original issue.
The group includes a low-number first batch mono pressing of The Beatles (“White Album”), top-opening, with its original inserts and black dust sleeves.
These are offered as a single lot for clearance, and will no be sold in part or as individual albums.
1. The Beatles. Very first UK Apple issue, 1968. Sleeve stamped number 0156593. Serial PMC 7057 (XEX 709). Label text “Sold in UK subject to resale price conditions…” showing from first batch. Matrices – Side 1 XEX 709-1; Side 2 XEX 710-1; Side 3 XEX 711-1; Side 4 XEX 712-1.
Condition: Overall middling to good, no serious scratches, no needle jumps or sticks. Sides 3 and 4 slight scuffing and hairline scratches. Sides 1 and 2 hairline scratches (five) which do not sound on playing. Background crackles here and there throughout, so not mint or excellent. But a good original mono player without hitches.
Sleeve very slight yellow, spine small de-lamination to top and bottom c1cm. Water mark bottom spine, shows on gatefold. Small age creases (two on front from spine, one on rear from spine, and slight horizontal crease at top of rear of cover.
All together, a very good condition example, solid and without noticeable defacements.
Comes with its original group portrait shots and poster – small pinholes in some corners.
2. Revolver. PMC 7009 (XEX.605/606). UK Parlophone mono, 1966. Matrices – Side 1 XEX 605-2; Side 2 XEX 606-3. Good player, with crackles here and there throughout, five hairline scratches, some light scuffing, mainly Side 2. Spindle hole hand-marked on Side 2 with letters R and T. Not mint or excellent, but a good solid early mono player with no sticks or jumps.
Cover – very good, not mint. Solid with no tears, spine unworn and clear. Slight scuffing (2mm) along open seam and to bottom right and top right of front. Nice, intact and well looked after.
3. Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. PMC 7027 (XEX.637/638). UK Parlophone mono, 1967. PMC 7027. Matrices – Side 1 XEX 637-1; Side 2 XEX 638-1. Very good player. Good, bright vinyl copy, with no scuffing, minimal background crackle. 1cm hairline scratch across grooves midway through Side 2, little audible deterioration. Spindle hole tight and only lightly marked. Light use copy.
Sleeve good. Old clear tape repair to 1.5cm tear at top of front. Spine clear-taped in past, album title reads clear. Inside gatefold very good, firm, very minor delamination lines, not intrusive. No inserts with this copy. Not excellent but very good.
4. Beatles for Sale. UK Parlophone mono, 1964. PMC 1240 (XEX.503/XEX.504). Matrices – Side 1 XEX 503 – 4N; Side 2 RP7. Good player without jumps or sticking, but not clean – medium use copy, background crackle common. Spindle hole worn both sides.
Cover – solid but worn spine top and bottom, delamination lines front and back. Spine text worn or missing. Plays through, but mediocre standard, clicks throughout. Worn.
5. James Taylor. UK Apple Stereo, 1968. Sapcor 3. Matrices – Side 1, Sapcor 3A – 1; Side 2, Sapcor 3B – 1. Slight old tape discolouration on part of Side 2 label, 1cm by 2cm. Nice bright vinyl, two slight hairline scratches counter groove midway Side 1. Occasional crackle. Spindle hole firm and not worn. Plays through without jumps or sticking, occasional background crackle throughout.
Cover – laminated gatefold in good but not mint or excellent condition. Spine worn at top and bottom through to card at corners. Rear bottom slight delamination. Inside unmarked.
