THE MOTHERS OF INVENTION - WE'RE ONLY IN IT FOR THE MONEY (UK VERVE, VLP 9199, 1967)
Here we have a beautiful example of this insanely rare album... This is one of the best albums ever made in my opinion (a hell of a statement to make, I know). This is the VERY FIRST UK MONO PRESSING on the black and silver Verve label (manufactured by EMI), which has a unique mono mix which is completely different to the stereo (any hardcore fan would notice it easily if they have never heard it before) and comes in a beautiful fully laminated gatefold sleeve. This is also the 'censored' mix, the only way the first UK pressing appeared (the 'uncensored' mix never crept out on the early UK pressings).This album is just SO RARE, don't miss the chance to get your hands on this UK pressing (the best sounding pressing that was ever issued - you know EMI were the best at pressing vinyl in the 60s, the Beatles albums say it all really), you will not be disappointed!
Vinyl is in VG+ condition : would grade better, has some light marks, side 1 is the main culprit : one mark on 'Who Needs The Peace Corps' which does not jump but makes a brief noise over the word "frisco" in the first bridge, one mark on 'Mom & Dad' which clicks for about 15 seconds, and one mark on 'Harry, You're A Beast' which clicks for about the last 20 seconds, so it isn't perfect, but this album is hard to find in any condition, and this is the best example I have ever seen. Apart from these 3 marks, there are a few light marks but they do not sound, the rest of the album plays through with some light (and I mean light) surface noise, nothing too major, could probably do with a little clean, it still sounds great!
Laminated gatefold sleeve is in EX condition : has a few light creases, has been in a plastic sleeve for many years, the laminate is all intact, the inside gatefold has some cracks and bubbling but overall looks absolutely beautiful. The spine is nearly perfect. The back top corner has a slight dink. Overall, looks great.
