(UK REPRISE, K 14100, 1971)
Lovely copy of this RARE Zappa single!! While some of Zappa's albums turn up often, his early singles only sold in very small quantities and are increasingly difficult to find. In all my years of collecting Zappa, this is definitely a rare one. This is the UK stock copy (promos are much more common) and they hardly ever come up for sale. Early US pressings credit the single to Junier Mintz (no Zappa credits at all) and the production and songwriting duties were credited to a certain Billy Dexter (who was of course FZ). This is one of his lesser-known pseudonyms and was only used for this single. The UK pressing credits the Mothers but still no Zappa credit - again, production and songwriting are credited to 'Billy Dexter' on this rare single and the B-side even says 'featuring Billy Dexter on guitar'! Now for the completists - the track Tears Began To Fall was included at the end of the Fillmore East June 1971 but this is a different mix, it is much louder and also has a spoken intro missing from the album. Junier Mintz Boogie is a nice funky instrumental track taken from the same Fillmore gig and is actually the solo left out from the Latex Solar Beef track from the Fillmore album. This track was only available as this B-side and has never been reissued or on any compilations! So the only way to get this track is on this single!! Here's your chance to own a nice UK pressing (which are much rarer than the US ones) so get bidding Mothers lovers!!! Don't miss out!
