Friday The 13th Part #III (original pressing - with shrink & sticker) (RARE!!)
While most of the “Friday The 13th” scores share the same themes and ideas, Harry Manfredini really starts to let the strings take center stage in Part III. Less emphasis is placed on the horns, with just an occasional SPLAT to accent the strings as they rise to heights that would put even Jimmy Stewart on edge. There’s also a heavy use of flanger on the soundtrack, creating the whooshing sound you hear during the cymbal hits.
Manfredini definitely wanted to capture more action with this score than Part 1 and 2, a fact made apparent by just how fast each piece of music moves by. Listening as a complete piece is like being chased through the woods by an unknown assailant, with only small gaps to catch your breath behind a tree. As soon as you think the coast is clear — SPLAT! CRASH! WOOSH! — the killer is there, right behind you. Although Friday the 13th Part III is not regarded as the best film in the series, the music certainly captures the emotional response you’d expect from a tense action/horror score.
