Description
This is a gorgeous LP copy of the super-rare piece of world-jazz-exotica by Ganimian & His Oriental Music entitled "Come With Me To the Casbah," released in 1959 on Atco Records as Atco 33-107 (one of Atco's earliest LP releases on the solid yellow Atco label: see second picture). The LP cover is crisp mint with absolutely no seamsplits or ringwear and with a beautiful slightly laminated shiny cover. The only imperfection (and it is VERY small) is the tiniest corner peel on the back upper right-hand corner. That's my shadow in the fourth picture and not a color stain). The LP itself is a shiny black mint and plays mint minus (more specifically, there is the VERY slightest surface noice audible only between songs and not at all during the music). If you are lucky enough to find this rarity, you will NOT find it in this condition.
Charles "Chick" Gaminian was an Armenian-American oud player who convened some of the 50s top jazz and world musicians (including Steve Bogoshian prominently featured on clarinet) to make up this group and record this one and only album in NYC. What the LP referes to as 'oriental' (both in the group name and in references in the one of the vocals) is really Middle Eastern, plain and simple. The best known track on this LP is the title track, covered by many. many artists over the years (including the great version by modern surf guitar band Los Straitjackets), sometimes just called "Casbah." This LP has the original version of this song (written by Gaminian) as well as the bizarre small radio hit "Daddy Lolo" (released on 45 under the name Ganim's All-Stars), a number of other Middle Eastern sounding originals and two Middle Eastern'd up pop standards ("My Funny Valentine" and a wonderful "Over the Rainbow"). It is mostly instrumental but there are a few vocal tracks (including the indescribable "Daddy Lolo"). This is an absolute classic in the exotica genre and impossibly rare to find, especially in this or any condition.
