Description

Here's a rare, possibly one-of-a-kind artifact: a full album's worth of unreleased material by UK singer-songwriter Gary Osborne, on a 12" acetate disc. The songs are well-written, melancholy and slightly psychedelic. Many of the tracks feature a full band arrangement with a bit of organ and ARP synthesizer. I've guessed the titles based on the lyrics alone:

  • Sleep Baby Sleep
  • A Couple of Years Ago
  • Together In the Grass
  • Foolish Child (Recorded by Georgie Fame for his 1971 LP, Going Home)
  • When I Wake You In The Morning
  • It’s Just a Game We Play
  • Smedley O’Doul (?)
  • Instrumental (title unknown)

The disc was probably made as a publishing demo, but only one of these songs seems to have ever been recorded by another artist: "Foolish Child," which appears on Georgie Fame's 1971 LP Going Home. The acetate is in VG condition with light scuffs and scratches. Plays beautifully throughout with some crackle and pop. Listen to a few excerpts below:
