Sam Gendel and Josiah Steinbrick hail from Los Angeles but have an out of this world sound. They are a hugely prolific duo who this time out serve up more outsider business that reimagines jazz in grainy beat pieces heavy in low end fuzz and stoner sonics. The mutated sounds take in busted rap snippets, Moon Dog style wood black rhythms, soft rock and even new age melody. The whole thing is hazy round the edges, crumpled like an old book and only ever suggestive, rather than explicit, in what it does. It's an unusual record, for sure, but is still very listenable.
