Despite the final split of the Blue Caps and a lapsed contract with the McLemore Agency in early 1959, Gene Vincent continued to tour extensively. He would either use pick-up bands or The Silhouettes whose drummer, Clayton Watson, introduced Gene to guitarist Jerry Merritt. Merritt became a close friend of Gene and the pair began to tour California and the northwest states. In the summer of 1959 Gene and Jerry took on a three-week tour of Japan. Their arrival at Tokyo airport was greeted by over 10,000 ecstatic fans and similar frenzied scenes accompanied each sell-out house throughout the tour. Gene left early and Jerry impersonated Gene for the last three dates. Following their return from Japan, recording dates were arranged at the Capitol Tower for early August. Fourteen titles were cut between the 3rd and 6th. Apart from Jerry Merritt on lead guitar, the session musicians included jazz bassist Red Callender, Jackie Kelso, once again on sax, Jimmy Johnson on piano and Sandy "Let There Be Drums" Nelson on percussion. Vocal backing was provided by The Eligibles and the album that resulted, "Crazy Times," proved to be one of Gene's most commercial to date, even thought the great lead guitar sounds that Johnny Meeks used to play were noticeably absent. Track listing: Crazy Times - She She Little Sheila - Darlene - Everybody's Got A Date But Me - Why Don't You People Learn How To Drive - Green Back Dollar - Big Fat Saturday Night - Mitchiko From Tokyo - Hot Dollar - Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate The Positive - Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain - Pretty Pearly.

· CONDITION:
· THE RECORD
(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)
(a) THE VINYL IS IN DECENT, VERY GOOD (VG) CONDITION. CAUTION: The vinyl is NOT MINT or NEAR MINT, but is nevertheless in clean, playable condition. There are a few surface marks and abrasions, mostly light and superficial, although some may be longer than 1.1/4 inches (1 inch = 2.5 centimeters) and a few others that might cause short periods of pops and clicks, specially during the low, quiet passages.
(b) The record comes in the original stock inner sleeve.
(c) The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!
(d) Stereo pressing of this title is much rarer, and by far more preferable to its mono counterpart. The mix is more graphic, the sound resolution more precise, and the channel separation (which does not exist on mono version) adds a whole new dimension to the music. Also, the stereo mixes are (by definition) somewhat different than on the mono version. We estimate that mono copies of this album outnumber stereo copies by a ratio of at least 10:1.
(e) Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
· THE COVER
THE COVER IS ABOUT VERY GOOD+ (VG+)
The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:
- Cover has all three seams (top, bottom and spine) partially split, as follows:
- Top seam: between 4 and 6 inches / 10 to 15 centimeters.
- Bottom seam: between 4 and 6 inches / 10 to 15 centimeters.
- Spine: between 8 and 10 inches / 20 to 22 centimeters.
- The previous owner taped the seams with numerous small pieces of clear scotch tape, which does affect the integrity and appearance of the cover somewhat. Some of these pieces of tape can probably be removed easily, but we did not attempt to.
- Back cover has a small original price sticker, which may be possible to remove with a little effort (we did not attempt to)
- Cover has some visible fraying/tattering on all three seams
- Cover has two corners slightly worn / frayed / bent (just a beginning of the split seam)
- Cover has some ring wear. On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and 10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 5 (front side) and 6 (back side)
- Back cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record), probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.
- Cover shows some light yellowing on back side, apparently from aging.
- Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine
- The cover has a few tiny scratch marks on the front side
NO OTHER VISIBLE FLAWS OR IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER
