Amazing !!! An unbelievable piece: What we have here is an unheard-of TEST PRESSING of this classic Billy Idol's first group's first release!. While many test pressings often have alternate or demo- versions of known, later released songs, and while it is possible that this particular test pressing contains demo or alternate versions of some of the tracks, please don’t take our word that it does: unfortunately, we are not familiar with the entire album (we know only a few songs) and we regret  we cannot provide any competent information on how different this TEST PRESSING may be from the official release. Please contact us if you have any questions. The generic Columbia white test pressing label is (almost) entirely blank and without much details, except for the technical and legal disclosure.  Side two (but not side 1!) has hand-written titles.

The album comes with the neatly typewritten album data sheet (torn but mostly complete) which contains all the details of the test pressing, including artist name, producer name, song titles, timings, assigned catalog number, scheduled date of release, list of revisions made thus far, performer credits, etc, as well as the sexy typewritten letter by Rick Ambrose on his own "Blondie" stationary.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS TEST PRESSING APPARENTLY NEVER HAD A CUSTOM COVER;  THE ALBUM WILL BE SHIPPED IN A PLAIN, GENERIC [WHITE] CARDBOARD COVER. TEST PRESSINGS ARE RARELY – IF EVER – FOUND IN CUSTOM (STOCK) COVERS.

Cocky and commercial -- and sporting some of Billy Idol's better lyrics -- Generation X is more like glam or straight power pop with punk themes than pure punk. The guitar freakout at the end of "Youth Youth Youth" is the sort of noodly guitar jam you might not expect from a supposed punk band, and "Kiss Me Deadly" is a precursor to the power ballads of the '80s hair bands. The three songs here on this British edition that were omitted from the American one are of particular note: "Listen," "The Invisible Man," and "Too Personal." "Invisible Man," with its "My Sharona" rhythm and atypically oblique lyrics, is the interesting one, although all three are minor compositions. Music buyers in the United States were treated to "Gimme Some Truth," "Wild Youth," and "Wild Dub" in exchange, which made for a slightly stronger package after all. Generation X recorded a number of non-album tracks, too, so perhaps a three- or four-disc box set of complete recordings will someday make these various international configurations obsolete.

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VERY GOOD+ . CAUTION: The vinyl is NOT MINT or NEAR MINT, but is nevertheless in a very nice and clean condition. There are some surface marks and abrasions, mostly light and superficial, although some may be longer than 1.1/4 inches (1 inch = 2.5 centimeters)

(b)          The album comes with the original typewriten data sheet still attached

(c)           The album also comes with the original typewritten Chrysalis letter of introduction.

(d)          The record is pressed on a RELATIVELY  thick, inflexible vinyl. This is NOT a thin, flimsy ('dynaflex' type),  vinyl, but not the thickest, most rigid vinyl, either.

(e)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

COVER : This reference pressing comes without any custom jacket, and will be shipped in its original plain, generic, white cardboard cover with a machine-stamped catalog number (NOT GRADED SEPARATELY)
