Description
Up for auction is a copy of From Genesis To Revelation, the debut LP by Genesis, released in 1969 on Decca, cat no SKL 4990. This is a “transitional” pressing from late 1969, featuring a boxed Decca logo on the labels, though still with a “peephole” on the rear to indicate mono or stereo (and also featuring mono & stereo catalogue numbers on the cover). The lyric insert is also present, though this seems to only feature the stereo cat no. It doesn’t quite have the cachet of a true first press, but is still quite scarce in this format.
Condition: the vinyl is in truly remarkable condition. I see barely a mark on the playing surface, and the only indication of use seems to be a couple of spindle trails on the side 1 label. The lyric insert is also immaculate. The easily-damaged cover has survived the years less well, with a few laminate creases on the front & some ring wear on the rear, but has no serious damage (no tears, writing, seam splits etc). EX/VG/EX (vinyl/cover/insert).
My grades: I use a 10-point scale: M-; EX; VG+; VG; VG-; G+; G; G-; F (fair); P (poor). I never use mint as a grade for used records. I am a long-time (25+ years!) record collector, and play-grade where possible. I don’t use stock photos: the item pictured here is the item for sale.
