This highly collectable album has 'The Famous Charisma Pink Scroll Label' and plays with stunning quality as detailed below.  It comes complete with a very clean original fully textured gatefold.

Visual grading

This is a very clean vinyl and has always been very carefully handled.   Under a strong bright light I can see there are no scratches and whilst there are a number of fine hairlines they have no doubt been caused by sleeve removal and they are only very faint.  There is nothing that stands out as being visually obvious if you get my meaning.  S1 does have more spindle wear but not a large amount and there is very little on S2.  Overall this is a lovely looking vinyl and it retains a healthy glossy sheen.

Play grading

'The Musical Box' has only very light static on the intro and I do mean light!  For a vinyl approaching 50 years of age this level of clarity is very impressive indeed.  There are no pops, only a couple of light clicks and there is certainly no crackle.  Of course this opening section is very quiet and rarely have I heard a 'pink scroll' press play as clearly as this.  Yes there is a little 'background' but it is minimal and totally non-intrusive.  The first dynamic section plays with stunning power and depth and no interference whatsoever.  The remainder of the track plays in a similar fashion, a very minor amount of static in the quieter sections and stunning sound in the up tempo passages.  I cannot stress just how good the louder sections are - I have never heard them play with such distinction and precision and the end section is just incredible.  Absolutely mind-blowing!  These sections qualify as Mint- without doubt.  'For Absent Friends' again impresses with very clear audio and only light static in the background but no clicks or pops.  I am very strict in my grading and this is why I mention 'static' when I hear it.  It is very low in the mix and does not intrude on the audio whatsoever.  It is there for the audiophiles (I am one of them!) and it is only fair to grade any album honestly and consistently.  'Return Of The Giant Hogweed' is stunning from beginning to end.  The clarity and power that emanates from the speakers is first class.  I am not exaggerating by saying there is hardly any 'background' here.  I cannot adequately describe how good this is and I am confident in grading this as Near Mint the clarity is just superb.  With practically no 'background' this is audio of the highest calibre and again it is hard to believe it is on a very first 'pink scroll pressing.  Once again not one single click or pop.  Wow!

'Seven Stones' begins with barely any static but there are three clicks a few seconds in.  Thereafter it displays audio of an exceptional standard and no further interference.  A couple of light ticks but nothing intrusive.  Again the clarity and power here is just phenomenal.  'Harold The Barrel' plays with a precision that can only be described as Near Mint and it would be Mint- if not for a minimal amount of static on the fade out!  For such quiet track 'Harlequin' has a minimal amount static and a couple of light clicks but this does not detract from the quality on offer here.  It really does play very clearly and the quiet fade out is nigh on perfect.  'The Fountain Of Salmacis' is stunning from the very first note.  This 'high end' quality is prevalent throughout with no obvious interference.  The power is incredible and so often the louder sections have some distortion but there is barely any here, again I cannot stress enough how well this plays!  To all intents and purposes this is a breathtaking version that has only the lightest of static in a couple of the quieter sections.  A fabulous finale to a truly superb album.

In summary this is about as good as it gets for a 'pink scroll' first pressing.  The clarity and depth on offer here is so good I don't think I have ever heard a better one.  With no loud clicks or pops and only a hint of mild static here and there this is audio of an exceptional standard that will not disappoint.  A rare piece of progressive history which comes complete with a very impressive gatefold.

The Gatefold

The fully textured E.J Day gatefold is in lovely condition for its age and has only very minor shelf wear.  The edges are extremely clean and it is only the corners that have a little rubbing.  The spine is in excellent shape with just a couple of rub marks near the top and remains 100% legible.  The opening edge has minimal handling wear.  Both the front and back covers are very clean with no marking and the latter just has a tiny amount of ringwear at the foot of the gatefold.  The inside is in beautiful condition with only a minor (very minor) amount of fading around the edges.  Overall a superb example of this gatefold and I haven't seen many as clean as this.

The 'Pink Scroll' labels

There is some spindle wear as described, very little on S2, and the labels themselves are very clean and still have that strong vibrant colour.  There is just one small fade mark on S2 that can only be seen when held at a certain angle.  There is no writing anywhere.

Inner sleeve

The die-cut 'Made in Great Britain' plain white inner has no splits or tears just some light creasing here and there.

Play tested on my Pro-Ject Essential III Turntable / B&W 684 Speakers
