Some experts (like the website above) claim that the Garrod & Lofthouse manufactured cover is the earliest that was pressed in the UK - while others claim that the E J Day cover is the first. It doesn't really matter who's right but one thing is for sure, the G&L cover is by far the rarest. The one on offer here is only the second one I have ever seen in my years of record collecting - whereas I have owned many E J Day covers. It is almost impossible to find a G&L cover and Genesis collectors regard this as the most collectable of all the UK covers.

Cover: Excellent+. No writings, doodles or seam splits. Nice clear spine. Unlaminated non-gatefold cover made by Garrod & Lofthouse  - stated on the rear cover - see scan. States  "Marketed by B & C Records, 37 Soho Square, London W1" just above the G&L credit. Comes with its original paper (non poly-lined inner sleeve) which is Excellent.

Lyric insert:  Mint. 1st pressing green 'thick card' (not paper) insert.

Vinyl: Play tested. Side 1 looks to be Excellent and Side looks VG with a small scratch. Nice sheen to both sides. No skips/jumps. Some crackle on the run-in to both sides and in quieter sections.  Occasional pops/clicks. Side 1 plays VG+ and Side 2 plays VG. Used but not abused. Might improve with a clean as it had not been played for many years before play testing.

Labels: Near Mint. 1st pressing large 'Mad Hatter' labels with the hand adjacent to the spindle hole. B&C credits at the base of the label.

Gradings.......

Mint - The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality.

Excellent - The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality.

Very Good - The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality despite noticeable surface marks and occasional light scratches.

Good - The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and more significant scratches.

Fair - The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise, it may even jump.

Poor - The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc

Bad - The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler.
