This highly collectable album has 'The Famous Charisma Pink Scroll Label' and plays with excellent audio overall.  It comes complete with a very clean original fully textured gatefold and lyric sheet.

Visual grading

For a vinyl approaching 50 years old it is very clean indeed and has only a small number of faint sleeve removal hairlines.  There is a very small scratch on S1 that does cause some pops as detailed below but overall this is certainly one of the cleanest 'pink scroll' vinyls I have seen and it still retains a healthy glossy sheen.  It does have a small warp that gives it a slight bowl type effect so there is no actual lifting as it revolves and has no bearing on the audio.

Play grading

'Looking For Someone' has stunning clarity throughout apart from on one section.  From the very first note there is barely any 'background' and it really is a superb listen.  At the start of the third verse 'Nobody needs to discover me' there are about 15 pops sadly due to the very small scratch that is visible.  It is a shame as aside from that the audio plays so clearly with barely any interference, just a 3/4 other light clicks, and the final third for example plays with what I would grade as Near Mint quality.  So many quiet sections play exquisitely with not even a hint of static so it is only this short mid section that has intrusive interference.  'White Mountain' begins in sublime fashion with near perfect audio with only one pop about one minute in.  From then on the audio is of a 'high end' standard with only the odd mega light dust tick.  Rarely have I heard a pink scroll press playing as clearly as this.  Again the quiet sections are so impressive and the majority of them have no 'background' whatsoever.  There is some light crackle before the 'humming' end section but it isn't particularly intrusive and this section then plays very clearly.  'Visions Of Angels' plays incredibly well from the word go with only light static in the background here and there but it certainly doesn't intrude on the listen.  For a first pressing this track performs with wonderful clarity and dynamic power on the louder sections.  There is no obvious interference here at all and ends S1 in supreme style.

'Stagnation' has a little intermittent static in the background but for a pink scroll press the clarity is excellent.  The first louder instrumental section plays with incredible power and depth, stunning in fact.  There is a little light crackle in a couple of sections thereafter but overall the audio is of a very high standard.  The end section is very impressive and has no 'background' at all.  The intro on 'Dusk' plays with real precision, just the odd 'tick' here and there but nothing that detracts from the audio.  You expect some 'background' on a vinyl nearing 50 years of age, that's part of its charm, and as long as it doesn't get in the way of the music it is easy to live with.  The 'background' on the this track is so minimal and I would happily grade this track as Ex+ it is that good and many sections play better than that.  'The Knife' begins with immense power and in all honesty it plays 'as new'!  It continues in the same way and even the first quiet section about three minutes in has barely any static.  I am very impressed with this clarity on offer here.  This ranks as better than many later pressings I have heard, it is absolutely stunning.  The sonic quality and depth here is second to none and the majority of this classic grades as Near Mint without doubt.  No distortion, no clicks, pops or crackle and, I repeat, hardly any static, what an absolutely superb version!  A stunning finale to this rare pressing.

In summary this is a very impressive pink scroll pressing and by and large the audio plays to an excellent standard.  It is only that one section on S1 that shows obvious interference but for this rare pressing to be relatively free of crackle is not that common.  Yes there is some light static here and there but there are many sections that play with Near Mint quality and it comes complete with a superb textured gatefold also.

The Gatefold

The original fully textured E.J Day gatefold is in wonderful condition with only very minor shelf wear.  The edges have only light rubbing near the corners and the spine is also very clean with only the centre having a little rubbing.  The corners themselves are in excellent shape with only a small amount of wear.  The opening edge has hardly any handling wear.  The front cover is extremely clean with only one very faint mark and the back cover is superb as is the inside of the gatefold.  I haven't seen many as clean as this.  It is obvious to see that this one has been very well maintained down the years and you would be hard pressed to find a better one.

The 'Pink Scroll' labels

They both have spindle wear but there is no marking/writing and they remain very clean indeed.  The S2 label has a very small crease on one edge.  The labels both still have that strong vibrant pink colour as fresh as the day when first released.

Lyric Inner

This lyric sheet is in excellent shape overall with only minor wear.  No marking/spotting but there is a little creasing top left and a faint fold line down the centre.

Inner sleeve

The original poly-lined inner sleeve has one small split but is otherwise in excellent condition with just some light creasing also.

Play tested on my Pro-Ject Essential III Turntable / B&W 684 Speakers

This record has been professionally cleaned on a Pro-Ject VC-S machine
