1970 - TRIPLE ALBUM BOX SET - STEREO - NEAR MINT CONDITION - CAT NO : STCH 639
From my own personal collection, selected tracks on these records were only played a few times on my high quality Goldring Lenco deck as I used to record on to cassette tape to listen in the car.
It has been kept upright in clean dry storage since my purchase when the record came out.
Vinyl : Heavy first pressing vinyl in NEAR MINT condition. No scuff marks or scratches.
Matrix Nos : (have tried to show in photo 6)
Side 1 : YEX 817 - 1U
Side 2 : YEX 818 - 1U
Side 3 : YEX 819 - 1U
Side 4 : YEX 820 - 1U
Side 5 : YEX 821 - 1U
Side 6 : YEX 822 - 1U
Labels : (photos 7 to 12) in NEAR MINT condition. Minor spindle marks visible on sides 1 & 2, only one or two on sides 3 & 4, none on sides 5 & 6 (which was never played). Mfd in UK. An EMI Recording. No smudging or discoloration, text all bright and sharp.
Outer sleeve (box) : in NEAR MINT condition. Earliest possible version. 18mm deep box (later versions were thinner) - see photo 3. Made in Great Britain on inside cover below track listings and credits (photo 4). Leather effect textured black covering (later "Great Britain" covers do not have this). The most notable identifying feature of this early pressing is that it has a plain cardboard bottom on the inside of the box. All later covers have a white bottom, then later still, an orange bottom. I understand it was left in this raw state to allow a piece of stiff card to lay in the bottom of the box which would be covered in orange to match the inside of the opening leaf. This idea was soon dropped on cost grounds. This first issue came with the filler peice of corrugated white card set in the base of the box (see photo 2). All subsequent versions came with the bottom already lined in white ( and later still in orange). The gold lettering to the spine has become a little faint over the years. The hinged lid arrangement is perfect with no evidence of wear as only I have ever opened it.
Inner sleeves : in NEAR MINT condition. The three textured coloured inner sleeves have the same colour on the inside as the outside (later issues are white inside). These inners were notorious for splits along the edges. I don't believe anyone could have taken more care of the records, but still, due to the weight of the vinyl being stored over 39 years, there are minor splits listed below. Absolutely no marks or creases on any of the inners. Tiny logo in bottom right hand corner on one side of each inner reading PRINTED IN USA.
Record 1 - mauve sleeve - 18mm split to bottom, 48mm split to one side, third side intact.
Record 2 - grey sleeve - 15mm split to bottom, 36mm split ot one side, third side intact.
Record 3 - yellow sleeve - 10mm split to bottom, both sides intact.
Insert : Colour poster of George folded into six to fit in the box in MINT condition. Was only opened once when purchased and now for photo. Yet another confirmation that this is a first pressing is on the bottom right hand corner PRINTED IN GREAT BRITAIN STCH 639 (see photo 5). It also comes in a matt finish (later ones were glossy).
Gradings based on RECORD COLLECTOR GUIDE gradings.
