Description

This lot contains nine consecutively numbered 12-inch 78 RPM records (HMV #'s DB-7760 through DB-7768), which appear to make up a complete set of Leoncavallo's opera "I Pagliacci." The soloists listed on the labels include Beniamino Gigli, Mario Basiola, Iva Pacetti, Giuseppe Nessi and others, accompanied by the La Scala Orchestra, Milan, conducted by Franco Ghione. The records are auto-coupled in two groups so the first five records contain sides 1 through 10, and the other four records contain sides 11 through 18.

Visually, they grade solidly in the VG+ range, still beautifully shiny and hardly any visible surface wear of any significance. I've played parts of some of them, and those parts play through without skipping or repeating on my Audio-Technica turntable, and mostly only very light background noise, but some scattered pops and clicks. I would expect the others to play similarly. Because of variations in tracking ability, filtering technology and needle weights, I can offer no guarantees as to how well they will play on your equipment.
