I started listening to their first debut again and began to enjoy the last 3 songs, which I didn't really get before. I love Florian Fricke and Popol Vuh ('72-'76), I love Conny Veit's guitar (especially with Popol Vuh), and I have appreciated Danny Fichelscher's work with Amon Duul II and Popol Vuh (I've loved his guitar work, but he doesn't do that here), so I decided I needed to listen to this, that surely there is quality music here. Well there is! This is a bit understated in terms of its musical presence but it grew on me quite a bit. Very nice melodies and atmosphere. Almost folk-rock at times, it definitely channels the Popol Vuh sound throughout to varying degrees, and is way less hard rock than their first. The bonus track "Mindwinds and Heartfrost" is good once you get into it and is a fairly different in style (recorded around the time of their first album, 1971, I think). The album is quite good, and consistently so with great melodies and moments of excellence spread throughout. I like this one more than the first Gila album.
