Formed in 1962 and went through all the stages from beatrock to underground psych to classic rock ... Initially they were known as 'The Golden Earrings', in 1969 they changed the name to 'Golden Earring' ... Their 1967 second album emerging from the beat-invasion and deliver a full slate of catchy tracks, the band is really opening up its groove here -- getting past the straight jangle garage/beat of their debut, and expanding their sound in ways that rival the changes going on with Beatles at the same time! A slightly soulful undercurrent emerges on a few tracks -- almost a hint of the heaviness to come in the group's music, yet still mostly focused on rockish outlets here. And the instrumentation's getting a bit more complicated too -- some really compelling lines that take full advantage of the great production for the record.
The Golden Earrings were pioneers – Holland’s first home-grown beat-era stars: before The Motions, before Q65, before The Outsiders. Their first single hit the charts in April 1965 and began a career which still thrives today. Before the international smash Radar Love in 1974 the band had scored an unbroken run of Dutch hit singles during the 60’s. Unlike most bands of the era, The Golden Earrings wrote their own material – they only ever recorded ONE single cover version. The Golden Earrings were amazingly assured, years before the international recognition. Their music combines the toughness of The Small Faces and the minor-key brooding melodies of The Beatles/The Zombies.
Vinyl: EX++. A fantastic upgrade for the experienced collector. This vinyl has barely been played and has no scratches or hairlines. I have played this in full on a high end system (Linn Sondek/B&W) and was very surprised by the splendid audio with beautiful depth of sound.
Sleeve: VG+. Just light storage wear on the top and bottom edges. A tiny sticker tear near the top right (see pic). Otherwise a lovely sleeve without any splits, tears or writing.
This is a unique investment opportunity!!! The next prog album to go completely through the roof. Finding this album in any condition at all is nearly impossible so late in the day. Get this while you still can. This value of the album is only going to go one way ... up and up ... until it will be totally unavailable at all for a reasonable price.
