ARGUABLY THE most progressive Gong album in a career loaded with obtuse and somplex recordings. True, the band operate very much at the more acquired end of the prog rock spectrum with a zany sense of the absurd and crashing musical ideas but their appeal, especially here, is very focussed and idealogically sound.

Led by guitarist Steve Hillage the music is wacky yet controlled with all sorts of wild and humorous twists and turns. With titles such as 'I've Bin Stone Before' and 'Squeezing Sponges Over Policeman's Heads' it couldn't be anything less than chaotic of indeed anarchic - close to the punk rock ethic that would appear 5 or 6 years after this album was released.

This auction is part of a fantastic collection of seventies rock which I was lucky enough to acquire. Most of these records were stored with the utmost care and sparsely played. Some were possibly never played or may have been for just a handful of times.

Pressing: Virgin, UK, 1971 - Black & white label

Vinyl: Lovely clean and shiny condition. Possibly one or two spindle marks - faint. Virtually no signs of use. Grades as a super strong MINT-!

Cover: Again, clean and tidy. Issued in a wonderfully illustrated single cover. Sharp corners, no dings, no bends, no  ring wear, no split seams and no creases. Nice stiff and square spine. Just a hint of handling. Grades as a super nice Ex+
