THE GRATEFUL DEAD - " ANTHEM OF THE SUN ", Warner Bros Records (WS.1749) STEREO, UK Pressing, 1968.

Very rare first English stereo pressing of classic 1968 album by The Grateful Dead... this is the extremely rare 1st pressing with the rough textured red Warner Bros label, laminated sleeve and the very hard to find original inner sleeve, plus maxtrix numbers which end in A-1/B-1 denoting the very first run off the press.

This record has been professionally cleaned on my Moth cleaning machine (Note: after cleaning such a record, I do not have the heart to put it back in it's original sleeve so I have put the cleaned record in a new inner and included the original so it is still complete).



CONDITION:

VINYL = V.G.++ (Plays EX-) (Under my bright grading lamp there are some visual inperfections - I can make out a few faint paper-scuff marks, some faint hairline marks and the vinyl has that slightly dappled look that afflicts many old records. However, like so many well pressed 60's LPs, this appears to be a highly resilient record and it's playback defies it's visual condition, playing strongly without interuption by constant surface noise, loud clicks or distortion - whilst my grading is neccesary to cover the visual imperfections, this record plays at least to an EX- standard.. Not overplayed, even the labels are pretty clean with only the light spindle trails.
When playing this record right through I heard one or two very faint clicks just audible in a quieter sections and there is a bit of faint surface noise audible during the silences between tracks and during the silent run-in and occasionally just audible during a couple of quiet sections, but I was testing with headphones and once the music kicks in, it disappears - in my mind, these minor imperfections are by no means loud or consistent enough to ruin the listening experience... although it is only fair to point out so that potential bidders can take this into account when placing their max bids. Providing you are prepared to accept that it is a 1968 vinyl record and not a sterile CD then this LP should make a good honest copy for someone who intends to play and enjoy it - those looking for a museum piece or a lifeless CD would probably be happier avoiding this particular LP though.

Note: for the testing/grading of this record, I have played it all the through with headphones and my Linn LP12 Sondek turntable, which is generally quite critical although I must point out that I cannot guarantee exactly how this LP (or others I have for sale) will sound on your turntable - sorry to be so uptight, but I have met some very silly people on ebay over the years!

SLEEVE = V.G.+ (NO rips, defacing or tears, etc. That said, I have marked it down for some small creases, a little bit of all over general wear and the back is not as white as it once was... overall, well worn but not destroyed like so many of the other copies of this LP have been - see photo for further clarification.)
