Description

GRATEFUL DEAD "LIVE DEAD" Original 1969 U.S. Warner Brothers gatefold white label promo 2xLP. 6 long live psychedelic classics. Stereo 2WS 1830. M-/M-

With 3 studio albums under their belts, San Francisco's the Grateful Dead felt that those records had not fully captured their essence as America's foremost psychedelic jam band. Their live appearances featured long improvisational jams as opposed to the more concise songs found on their studio albums. So for this record, it was decided that their live show would be represented. 6 long live psychedelic jams from the Fillmore West & the Avalon Ballroom were captured on tape in early 1969 thanks to their in-house engineer Bear. These classics are presented here to enjoy for all posterity. The original line-up of Jerry Garcia (vocals & lead guitar), Bob Weir (rhythm guitar), Phil Lesh (bass), Bill Kreutzmann (drums) & Ron "Pigpen" McKernan (vocals, organ & harmonica) performed  a 23 minute"Dark Star", "St. Stephen" & 4 others that are now considered some of their best recordings.

6 tracks- Dark Star, St. Stephen, The Eleven, Lovelight, Death Don't Have No Mercy & And We Bid You Goodnight.

Gatefold cover looks great with no writing, tears or split seams. The only flaws are negligible ring wear on the top of the front & back covers plus very slight corner wear. Rated at near MINT. The record has no scratches or scuffs & looks almost new. Very slight paper scuffs on sides 1 & 3 do not affect play. Rated near MINT. The white Warner Brother/7 Arts labels marked "Promotion Not For Sale" are in great shape & indicate that it is an original promo copy from 1969.
