GRATEFUL DEAD LP WORKINGMAN'S DEAD a 1970 US STEREO pressing, on the WARNER LABEL. CAT#WS1869.  This is an OG TERRE HAUTE pressing from 1970.  The back cover is upside down, which means it was pressed the first year in 1970.  This copy in addition has the artisan symbol in the run outs as well as KD (Kendun) etched on one side.  Workingman's was The Dead's 5th album.  It was a move away from the psych LPs that preceded it.  Those albums of course came out of a mind altering drug induced era in which the band was primarily focused on performing live. With Aoxomoxoa, released in 1969, The Dead started focusing on songwriting, and Jerry had teamed up with Robert Hunter.  Workingman's would go in a different direction, with Jerry and Hunter pretty much writing all the songs. This would be a more folk, roots, country rock.. bluesy effort, and it was incredibly successful in creating a kind of Americana that was almost it's own genre of the genre.  It would become a soundtrack for a generation, and as a record, was the first great record they produced.  That takes nothing away from their earlier LPs, but they were searching for a voice, and they found it with this record.  Everyone sees these records around, but not in great condition.  This record pretty much doesn't move out of a collection until the owner dies.  It's a staple of any collection, and the great copies are treasured.  This OG copy is one of those great ones that made it through unscathed.
