Description
This is a unique, one-of-a-kind copy of the 1987 Greatful Dead 45rpm "Back to Back Hits" single 7-21988, "Sugar Magnolia" b/w "Truckin'" on the Warner Bros. label. This particular record is a very rare "Production Test Pressing" - you can easily see how it differs from the regular issue 45. Usually, about a dozen or so pressing "tests" are made to assure correct vinyl thickness, label centering, groove depth, stamper levels and other Quality Control standards. These pressings are removed from the machine while the vinyl is still hot and pliable - each test press is totally unique! They didn't even cut the large center 45 hole or trim off the edge flashing! Then, after these pressings cool, and have been measured and scrutinized, they are destroyed and melted down to make more records. Occasionally, one of these manufacturing "test pressings" survives and winds up surfacing in the general population, just like error coins do.
This particular test pressing must have FAILED the test - again, they never bothered to cut the center hole and trim the massive edge flashing! How many 45s have you ever seen that look like this?! Not to mention the fact that it is a hard-to-find Grateful Dead 45 from the 1980s...WOW! This is a screamin' rare collectible for sure!
The record comes as-is (the standard issue "normal" 45 with hole punched is not included, just pictured for reference.)
NOTE: This test pressing cannot be played on a standard phonograph because it was only a test and never meant to be played - warps, scratches, and scuffs are possible and do not affect the value or collectibility of the item.
Note: International customers may have to pay a duty at Customs - every country's rules are different.
