Description
This is a magnificent record. It's by The Groundhogs on the UK blue Liberty label entitled 'Blues Obituary' from 1969 (catalogue no. LBS 83253). It's a stereo recording and it's the band's second album which features the two tone blue Liberty labels with the 'Statue of Liberty' logo on either side, indicating that this is an early pressing (I'm pretty sure it's a first pressing). The music features the great vocals and blues guitar work of Tony 'TS' McPhee with a great backing band (please see below for personnel).
OUTER SLEEVE - The sleeve which is laminated on both sides is in fine condition with some ring wear, wear, creasing and very slight delamination on the front top left hand side and on the rear right hand side - no splits, just bubbles. There is some definite wear, ring wear and creasing on the rear sleeve. The edges and spine are in fine condition with minor wear on all three. there is some minor 'feathering' along the mouth of the sleeve. The wording along the spine is 99% readable (one letter slightly obscured). It states on the rear cover - 'Produced by Tony (T.S.) McPhee for Groundhog Productions during June 1969 at the Marquee Studios, London - Engineers Colin Caldwell, Gery Colins - ComposedWritten and Arranged by Tony (T.S.) McPhee - Published by United Artists Music - Sleeve Design - Hogart - Photography - Zoran Matic - Body Courtesy of 'Hoss' of 'Screw' - Printed and made by MacNeill Press Ltd., London'. I have graded the sleeve as VG++.
INNER SLEEVE - This is a plain diecut white paper sleeve with a clear plastic liner. It is in Ex condition
RECORD - The record itself looks very clean with some superficial minor marks which do not affect the quality of the recording. This record has been well played. There is some surface noise over the two sides of the record which is audible during quiet passages and there are very occasional pops and clicks on both sides. There are definitely no jumps or clicks on any of the tracks. The textured labels are in fine condition with some spindle marks. There is no damage to the labels on either side. The matrix numbers on the run-off grooves are as follows - side one - LBS 83253 A//1 420 1 1 2 - side two - LBS 83253 B//1 420 1 1. I have graded the record as Ex-- and I believe that this is very fair. I try to grade everything as accurately and conservatively as possible. The winner of this auction will not be disappointed.
