First of all, this album is without a doubt, a museum piece. Beautiful copy of this amazingly rare Ft. Worth band's only LP release. WHAT MAKES THIS COPY SO IMPORTANT IS THAT IT IS AUTOGRAPHED BY LEGENDARY TEXAS SINGER/SONGWRITER GUY CLARK. WHY? Because he appears in the front (bottom left) and back cover photos (second from left) as a member of the band. See photos. It is his first appearance on any recorded release and he signed it for me in person. And he told me the story and a good story it is........
Clark is credited on the reverse cover: "Photography: Guy Clark". I knew Guy and I spoke to him at the Boulder Theater in Boulder, Colorado on February 20, 1993. During our conversation, I brought out this LP and asked him if he would sign it for me and tell me the story. He drew on his cigarette and smiled and said, "Sure."
PROVENANCE:
"I was in Houston to do a photo shoot for a newly signed Ft. Worth group for Uni Records that I knew from their Houston days. I got to the shoot location and set up. Three of the band members were there but the fourth fella was missing. Their manager decided that I had long hair and l looked the part, so I was drafted to be the fourth member of the band for the photos." I asked Guy, did he play on the record. "Not a note," he shook his head and fished another smoke out of his pocket. Then, when he signed the album he looked up and said, "I've never signed many of these".
Guy also signed one of his solo LPs for me as well as a guitar. So, I feel I can let someone else enjoy this genuine Texas rarity. It'll look stunning in the office, den or music room of your mansion. Of course, it'll look stunning on the wall of a good beer joint, too. It's all up to you.
I bought this LP at Woolco (a discount department store) in San Antonio, Texas in the summer of 1970.
Other interesting aspects of this LP include that it was produced by Joseph Henry Burnett (alias T-Bone Burnett). In the 1970s, Whistler, Chaucer, Detroit & Greenhill morphed into a band called Space Opera and released one excellent LP on Epic.
Stored vertically in a smoke free environment for 48 years.
