Description

ITEM DESCRIPTION:

This superb LP from Columbia (SAXF 118, French Pathé-Marconi pressing, blue/silver label – ED1, stereo) features Alceo Galliera and the Philharmonia Orchestra in a brilliant program of 5 Rossini Overtures, recorded at EMI Studio No. 1, Abbey Road, London in May 1959.

The sound quality is truly extraordinary and from the very first gripping bars of Semiramide one has the sensation of being in the very presence of Walter Legge’s extraordinary band.

Included are the following overtures by Rossini:

Semiramide

William Tell

L’Italiana in Algeri

La Scala di Seta

La Gazza Ladra

Incidentally, the lovely cover art was executed by Atalier Joubert. There are fine liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket, in French only, by Jacques Slyper.

CONDITION – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT++. There is minor bumping at corners and slight ringwear/discoloration to the rear panel, but that is all. There are no seamsplits, owners’ markings, bends, or other defects, and the album remains solid and quite handsome in appearance – overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.

The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT++. Although surfaces are not CD silent, really this is a fine copy and the playback is quite superb. Those requiring CD silent surfaces are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
