Recorded live in 1978, as Generation X took their first major strides into the U.K. singles chart, Live at Sheffield might not boast the best sound quality around, but it blazes with the kind of excitement that the group once engendered on a nightly basis, before the egos got too big and the ideas became too preposterous. There's no hint here that either "Mony Mony" or Sigue Sigue Sputnik hang anywhere in the band's future; this is a tight, economical, and most of all a blistering roar through some of the most memorable chants of the age -- "King Rocker," "Your Generation," "100 Punks," and so on. Add to that an audience that is determined to have a great time, regardless of whether or not they like Billy Idol, and this is one of those rare punk-era live shows that you'll want to experience over and over. ~ Dave Thompson
