Genesis Selling England By The Pound Original 1st Press UK LP EX+
This is one of 5 completely original studio Genesis LP’s I am currently auctioning, spanning the Gabriel Era from Trespass to “The Lamb”. I am offering for sale only first pressings complete with every exact feature that which makes them truly original copies. Genesis / Selling England By The Pound. 1973. Charisma CAS 1074. Original Charisma UK pressing. Large mad hatter pressing with very rare card lyric inner sleeve (not single inner card insert). Sleeve manufactured by E J Day.
Matrix: Side 1 A-1U 2 R “Porky Ray”. Side 2 B-2U 2 PL “Pecko”
Overall Condition: EX .This is a nice solid example of this LP. It is completely original with its large mad hatter label, stating manufactured and distributed by B&C records ltd. Please see the sections below for detailed gradings :
Outer Sleeve: EX. The outer sleeve is in really nice condition. This is such a difficult LP to find in nice condition and the sleeve almost invariably has some degree of dirt or wear due to its predominantly pale yellow colour. This is a very nice copy with just a minimal amount of wear. It has no significant defects, just very light soiling in a few isolated places.
Lyric Inner Sleeve. EX. The majority of copies with A1U BU2 matrix came with a card inner lyric insert. A few copies came with a lyric inner sleeve which originally housed the record and these are much rarer. I have personally conducted a detailed study on Genesis LP first pressings of this period and this is perhaps one of the most difficult points to resolve in that I believe B&C records used multiple suppliers to provide the various elements to this LP’s first release. Some have argued the lyric inner sleeve is the original first press. I cannot verify this but I do know that the inner lyric sleeve that comes with this example is the much rarer variant.
Record: Graded EX to EX+. I grade under strong halogen light which always reveals more than any standard light. The record surface displays just a few hairline marks on both sides. It is very clean and has clearly not been played very much.
Overall a very high grade original example of this LP, with the very rare card inner sleeve.
