Peter Gabriel's time with Genesis ended with "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" in 1974 and many fans consider the sixth album to be the best of the band's first phase. The concept album is set in New York and tells the surreal story of Puerto Rican Rael, who has to save his brother.

Gabriel's texts pose a great challenge even to well-intentioned listeners: they are often cryptic and abstract and an understandable plot progression is basically impossible to make out. Musically, however, “The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway” scores with a wide Spektrum of styles, including progressive rock, art rock, funk and jazz fusion. The album is characterized by complex rhythms, multi-layered melodies and dense instrumental layers and shows the band's virtuoso musicality. The track "The Carpet Crawlers" became a hit and "The Land Lies Down On Broadway" is widely considered one of Genesis' most important and influential works, inspiring generations of progressive rock musicians.

The remastering for Analogue Productions 4-LP box on 180 gram vinyl at 45 rpm was done by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering.
