Description

This is the original 1970 UK issue with the narrow spine USA printed box, the multi-coloured lyric inners and fold-out poster of George, with the YEX-817/8/9-1U matrices of the very first presses.

All Things Must Pass was after the break up of The Beatles and was recorded between May to October at EMI Studios with a variety of guest musicians and was released on 30th November 1970. Several commentators interpret Barry Feinstein's album cover photo, showing Harrison surrounded by four garden gnomes, as a statement on his independence from the Beatles.

The complexity of the artwork and packaging meant that all the coloured inners (no UK printer could do the textured paper!!) and some of the posters & boxes also had to be imported from the USA in October to meet the huge pre-order demand even before the release. It went gold in the USA by the end of December (500,000 copies!!) & no. 4 in the UK on the 30th January (or probably no.1 due to a postal strike!! c.2006 UK Chart Company)....

The USA narrow spine box sleeve is intact & in EX condition, with some very light rubbing on the corners of the outer cover and light discolouration of the outer box. The spine is intact, still connected and fully readable. The matt US printed poster is intact and in EX+ condition. The three coloured USA printed lyric inners are intact, with some light creasing and are in EX+ condition.   The records are in visually in EX+ condition, with only one or two faint sleeve removal hairlines on sides 1 & 2, a couple of hairlines on sides 3 & 4 and one or two faint hairlines/needle scuffs on sides 5 & 6 visible on each side. The labels are in EX+ condition, clean & bright with evidence of only one or two very faint spindle markings on each side.   The sound reproduction is EX+, clear & precise throughout with definately no skips, sticks or jumps, but there is some very brief background noise during the run in grooves.
Overall, a really clean, loud and clear listen which plays really well.   The matrix nos. are;
YEX-817-1U stamper 2-AM, YEX-818-1U stamper 2-MM, YEX-819-1U stamper 1-MM, YEX-820-1U stamper 2-RP, YEX-821-1U stamper 2-RR, YEX-822-1U stamper 2-AT. This is one of the early pressings of the original 1970 UK stereo 1st issue of this album!
