Description
The Concert For Bangladesh is a live triple album credited to “George Harrison & Friends”. It was released on Apple Records in December 1971. The album chronicles the concerts of the same name, held on August 1, 1971 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The album features Harrison, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Ravi Shankar, Ringo Starr, Billy Preston, Leon Russell, and members of Badfinger. The shows were a pioneering charity event, raising money for impoverished, displaced Bengali refugees. It set the model for future multi-artist rock benefits such as Live-Aid and the Concert For New York City. Co-produced by Phil Spector it takes his “Wall Of Sound” approach in a live setting. The boxset’s elaborate packaging includes a deluxe 64 page booklet documenting the event. The cover art depicts an image of a malnourished child beside an empty food bowl. On release it was a huge commercial and critical success topping albums charts in several countries and going on to win the Grammy Award For Album Of The Year in March 1973.
