§ Super Rare George Jones 1st LP Grand Ole Opry's New Star §

Up for auction is the super rare first album by George Jones titled "Grand Ole Opry's New Star George Jones Country Song Hits". To add to the desire of the LP it is not only the first LP released of George Jones, but also the first album released by Starday records labeled LP-101. If that is not enough, this particular album happens to be one of the even rarer Canadian editions and also carries the Sparton Records logo.

The US release of this album has a high book value of $1200 and there most certainly a lot more US copies of this released than there were Canadian copies. To be honest I have never seen in person nor online another copy of this album carrying both the Canadian Sparton Records logo alongside the US Starday logo. This is a record any collector would be proud to have as the highlight of their collection.

As for the condition of this piece of country music history it is overall in very good shape considering it is now 50 years old. On the record itself there are some surface scratches but nothing that looks deep enough to distort the play in any way. Using the grading chart below I would say record itself would have a rating of VG+ as it a nice record retaining almost all of its original gloss however it does have noticeable light scratches. As for the album cover I would give it a rating of VG as it is still a solid cover, it does have some surface scuffs as you can see in the photos and one small space on the bottom beginning to open that is about 1.5 inches long.

VG+

Very Good Plus - nice record, but has noticeable
flaws such as light scuffs, scratches, etc. - still
visually appealing - covers may have very minor,
barely noticeable creases, splits, wear. M Mint perfect record or cover, no flaws.

Very Good - well-used, should still play well, but
may have surface noise. Many of the defects of a
VG+ record or cover will be more pronounced, but
still a decent copy. NM Near Mint - a nearly perfect record or cover
- retains full gloss - no obvious flaws - may
have very minor defects which are apparent
on close inspection.

VG-

Very Good Minus - clearly worn - will have surface
noise, but should play through - cover will have
obvious wear - an o.k. filler at the right price. EX Excellent - still a very nice record - will have all
or nearly all of its original gloss - may have slight
wear, light surface marks, hairlines which should
not effect play - an Ex cover will not have any
creases or splits.

Good - not so good - still playable, but will have
surface - cover will have obvious distractions, but
will be intact - a filler copy.
