Ginger Baker’s Air Force – 1970 – After being in the world’s first supergroup, the power trio Cream and the short-lived Blind Faith, Ginger Baker formed his own band and went off in about ten different musical directions. This first double album by Air Force, recorded live has heavy African rhythms, saxophones, percussionists, singers, Stevie Winwood, Grahame Bond (the English jazz guy, not Aunty Jack) and of course, Baker’s superlative drumming. Before fusion, before Afro rock, before world music, there was Ginger Baker’s Air Force playing an amalgam of all those styles when they didn’t yet have a name. Great record.
