Description
A seriously attractive original Bell Records pressing of Godspell featuring the iconic black/red psychedelic artwork and an unusually clean surviving copy with Bell Sound mastering details in the deadwax.
This was one of the key crossover theater albums of the early 1970s, bridging Broadway, folk-rock, gospel, and youth-counterculture aesthetics in a way older cast recordings simply did not. Songs like:
- Day By Day
- Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord
- All Good Gifts
- Learn Your Lessons Well
helped push Godspell well beyond traditional theater audiences and into mainstream pop culture.
One of the more interesting collector details on this particular copy is the deadwax:
- Bell Sound mastering stamp
- “SF” etching
Bell Sound Studios cuts from this era are respected by many collectors for their strong commercial mastering quality, and the “SF” initials are associated with mastering engineer Sam Feldman. It is not a huge money variant, but it is exactly the kind of original pressing detail knowledgeable buyers appreciate seeing documented.
Original Bell 1102 gatefold pressing with:

Vinyl presents exceptionally clean with deep gloss and minimal visible handling. Playback is NM-, clean, lively, and strong throughout. Jacket retains excellent eye appeal with only moderate age/storage wear visible beneath shrink.
